There are 15 common obstacles to overcome when transitioning to a rapid growth culture. Let’s examine the first one, entitlement.
We have all met that person who feels they are deserving of more perks and pay than anyone else. They feel that the processes and systems are for everyone else but certainly not them. Some may even rest on laurels from victories long past.
This mindset can be found at every level of the organization from the experienced executive to the top performing salesperson to the veteran administrator. No matter where it exists, it is destructive. Moral suffers, rules are broken, and everyone is out for themselves instead of the company.
Ending entitlement begins with clearly defining the values of your organization. Hire to them, train to them, reward them. At your team meetings, without identifying anyone, describe those behaviors that do not support the organizational mission and the consequences if they continue. Meet privately with your direct reports and go over expectations. Finally, be prepared that you may have to support some in finding their dream job elsewhere.
Until next time, see you on the road to Excellence.
